Baby boys exposed to a common chemical utilized in plastics earlier than delivery usually tend to increase symptoms of anxiety and depression at the age of 10-12, a new study has announced.
BPA (Bisphenol A) is a component of some plastics determined in food containers, plastic water bottles, dental sealants and thermal receipt paper. In the body, BPA is a synthetic estrogen, One of the classes of chemicals often called “endocrine disruptors.
“The new study, published in the journal Environmental Research examined early life exposure to the chemical BPA.
An earlier study stated that prenatal exposure to BPA was related to emotionally reactive and aggressive behaviour and other symptoms of anxiety and depression in boys aged between 7 to 9.
Frederica Perera, researcher at the Columbia University, and her co-investigators adopted 241 non-smoking pregnant women and their children and to measure the amount of BPA that had been engaged in the body, the researchers accrued urine samples from the mothers for the period of the 3rd trimester of their being pregnant and from the youngsters aged between 3 to 5.
After keeping apart the data through sex, they determined that boys with the highest levels of prenatal exposure to BPA had more signs of depression and anxiousness and no such associations had been discovered in girls. “These findings are consistent with our prior reviews on BPA and kid’s development assessed at earlier ages and advise greater susceptibility of the male brain for the period of prenatal development,” Perera brought.
